Hope for Displaced Children
Ref 290 SL - School
Support displaced children in Sri Lanka by empowering their education through local schools.
For over 30 years, Sri Lanka’s communities were torn apart by a devastating armed conflict. Thousands of lives were lost, and even today, families continue to mourn those who vanishes. Nearly 15 years on since the war ended, many areas remain without basic necessities, leaving young people without hope, often forcing them to seek uncertain futures far from home.
In these war-affected villages, schools face severe shortages of funding and resources, leading to high dropout rates. But amid these challenges, local churches have risen as beacons of hope, offering nutritional and educational support to underprivileged children.
One such school in Sri Lanka’s Eastern District has reached out to our partners through a local church, requesting a desktop computer and a photocopier – tools that would transform their ability to teach. The cost? Just 3,000 AUD.
One teacher shared with us, “I travel 5-7 kilometres just to make photocopies, wasting precious time that could be spent with the children.”
A simple photocopier could save hours of travel, turning that time into precious learning moments.
By supporting this school, you are giving these children the gift of education and empowering the local church to shine even brighter as a source of hope and love in a community that has endured so much.
