Ebola Relief - Uganda

The district Mubende in Uganda was put under a strict 3-week lockdown in the month of October to combat the Ebola outbreak. There were 19 deaths out of 58 cases. In November, that number has risen to 130 cases and 31 deaths - a death rate of more than 33%. There is no approved vaccine against the latest strain of the virus.
Additionally, the following districts are now being affected: Kassanda, Kagadi, Kyegegwa, Wakiso, Bunyangabu, and Kampala - Uganda's captial. Uganda's outbreak so far is the 8th largest on record. Countries surrounding Uganda are preparing for the worst.
Aid for Refugees in UgandaDue to the high numbers of refugees in Uganda, they are living without the privileges of being a Ugandan citizen. Typically Ugandan culture allows each family to have their own space in a graveyard when someone from their family passes away. But in the Mubende council where Ebola is most prevalent, there is no graveyard for refugees living in Uganda to bury their family and friends. They do not have the resources or money to purchase their own spot. Instead, the family will have to physically carry the bodies to the nearest refugee camp. This is deeply painful and adds to their grief and suffering in the face of loss.
If this is a need that you feel led to contributing to in order to bless refugee families with a place to rest their loved ones, please don't hesistate to contact us.
The World Food Programme's Global Report of Food Crisis (2022) states that Uganda is one of the highest countries at risk of food insecurity, as well as hosting some of the highest numbers of refugees and disaplced people. Uganda hosts the third largest refugee population. The impact of the lockdown is affecting the entire community of Mubende, with a much stronger impact on the refugee community. Grace Church Mubende currently is home to 80 families, majority being refugees. They make their living by moving outside of the town to sell fabrics and other items, however the lockdown and restriction of transport has resulted in loss of income. Grace Church Mubende is one church out of many that have been deeply affected by the Ebola lockdown. It is not able to provide food to its members - most being refugees. Philoi aim to send funds to Grace Church so that they are able to purchase maize flour for 80 of its families. Each family will be supplied with 25kg of maize, costing roughly $40 AUD each.
If this is a need that you feel led to contributing to in order to bless refugee families with a place to rest their loved ones, please don't hesistate to contact us. We would be blessed by your generosity in supplying refugees in Uganda with food from their local church in the midst of the Ebola lockdown. DONATE
