War in SUdan

*Hiba is an Eritrean refugee in her thirties, living in Sudan. She was raised Christian and teaches Sunday School at her local church. She has a Bachelor degree in medicine and has two young boys. Overtime, her husband took additional Muslim women as his wives, and became physically abusive towards Hiba. After enduring this for a long tie, she sought a divorce with the help of her church, becoming a single mother and being forced into hiding. However, he continued to follow her and verbally abused her in front of her Muslim neighbours who began to attack her for being a Christian. Now she runs from her country for two reasons - one being in fear for what her husband is capable of, and the other because of the war in Sudan.*Name changed for security reasons.

Hiba and her two sons are one of the families we have been supporting. She has now fled from Sudan and has gone to another gulf country. There are so many like her in a similar situation. Not only are they on the run within their own country, but the war has added another factor in their journey to safety.
The fighting between Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and Rapid Support Forces (RSF) has led to the ransacking and burning of churches, including the Anglican Cathedral. On Tuesday morning armed men broke the gate and entered the cathedral premises and destroyed parked cars in the church with guns.
Not only are Christians suffering, but the war has led to an alarming amount of internally displaced people. There are no firm numbers, however experts suggest it reaches the millions. An influx of refugees have been documented crossing Chad, Egypt, Ethiopia, Saudi Arabia, and South Sudan. Many internally displaced people cannot even afford a bus ticket to reach neighbouring countries. There is also an alarming lack of international aid. Though there are some aid groups responding in Chad and South Sudan, both countries have their own humanitarian issues and resources are extremely limited.
